Where HPE ProLiant Compute DL380a Gen12 fits
The DL380a Gen12 is a 4U accelerator-focused Intel Xeon 6 platform. HPE documents configurations supporting up to ten double-width GPUs; the supported combination, power and cooling requirements must be confirmed for each build.
On an accelerator platform the GPU decides the build, the power draw, the delivery date and most of the price. Start from the model you intend to run, its precision and how many concurrent users it must serve, then work back to GPU count and memory — not the other way round. GPUs are also the component most likely to set the lead time, so tell us the date you need it working.
Installation and workload checks
Confirm the rack can actually feed and cool a fully populated 4U accelerator chassis: power per rack including all power supplies, whether a three-phase feed is available, rear clearance and airflow, and floor loading at full weight. Confirm the GPU, driver and framework combination against current HPE compatibility documentation for the exact build, and agree a representative workload test with a measurable acceptance target before the order is placed.
What to specify in your quote
| Decision | Information to provide |
|---|---|
| AI workload | Model and framework, precision, context length, expected concurrency and whether the work is training or inference. |
| GPU configuration | Accelerator model, quantity, GPU memory required and the validated combination for this chassis. |
| Power and cooling | Power available per rack, number of supplies, three-phase availability, rear clearance, airflow and floor loading. |
| Storage and network | Dataset size and growth, throughput required to keep accelerators fed, and interconnect between nodes. |
| Delivery and support | Quantity, delivery location, GPU lead time, site readiness, support term and installation responsibilities. |
Build a proposal that can be compared fairly
Ask Invitty for a bill of materials separating hardware, software licences, support and implementation, with every accelerator on its own line and its own lead time. On an AI build the GPUs are usually both the largest cost and the longest wait, and a single bundled figure hides both.
Confirm the power supply count and cords cover the fully populated configuration rather than a base build, and that the quoted rack can feed it. Agree a representative workload test with a measurable acceptance target before ordering: a component specification alone does not establish tokens per second, and that is the number you will be judged on.
