Edge chassis and compute node

HPE ProLiant EL8000s

A configured edge system, not just a chassis. Explore the configuration, clarify the workload and request an itemised proposal.

Where HPE ProLiant EL8000s fits

The EL8000s is an edge platform that HPE documents with the HPE Compute Edge Server e930t. A buying proposal must identify the chassis and compute components rather than treating the chassis name as a fully populated server.

The most common costing mistake on this platform is treating the chassis as the server. The chassis and the compute nodes inside it are separate line items, and a quotation that names only one of them cannot be compared against anything. Tell us how many nodes you need, at how many sites, and what the racks at those sites look like.

Installation and workload checks

Separate chassis quantity from node quantity in the specification and confirm both. Telco and edge sites frequently differ from data-centre assumptions, so confirm rack depth and mounting arrangement, whether power is DC or AC, and the operating temperature range the site actually reaches. Confirm which compute node generation is being offered, since the chassis outlives several.

Configured to your project. Model names describe platforms. Processors, memory, drives, GPUs, software and support are included only when listed in your agreed quotation. Confirm India availability and lead time when requesting a proposal.

What to specify in your quote

DecisionInformation to provide
Site and chassisNumber of sites, rack depth and mounting arrangement, operating temperature range, and chassis quantity per site.
Compute nodesNode quantity per chassis, node generation offered, and the workload each node carries.
Power inputWhether the site supplies DC or AC, feed redundancy, and power budget available per rack.
NetworkConnectivity at each site, resilience if the backhaul drops, and out-of-band management access.
Delivery and supportQuantity per site, delivery locations, site readiness, support term and response time to remote sites.

Build a proposal that can be compared fairly

Ask Invitty for a bill of materials that lists the chassis and the compute nodes as separate lines, with quantities per site. A proposal that prices only the chassis, or only the nodes, cannot be compared against another one, and this is the single most common costing error on this platform.

Confirm power input type for each site, since DC and AC builds are not interchangeable, and confirm the mounting arrangement suits the racks actually installed there. Where several sites are involved, ask for the per-site breakdown rather than a single total; delivery, readiness and support response differ by location.

HPE ProLiant EL8000s: buying questions

Does an EL8000s chassis quote include an e930t node?
Only if the node is explicitly listed in the bill of materials. Ask for the complete assembly and required components to be itemised; a chassis description alone does not establish the delivered configuration.
What is the price of HPE ProLiant EL8000s in India?
Pricing depends on the chassis and node configuration, software, support term and the number of sites. Send the node count per site, how many sites, the power input available at each, delivery cities and target dates for an itemised INR quotation with taxes and exclusions stated.
Can I request an AI configuration for HPE ProLiant EL8000s?
Only with care. This is an edge chassis platform, and accelerator options depend on the compute node generation offered and the power and thermal envelope of the site. Tell us the model, the latency requirement and the site conditions, and we will confirm whether it is supportable there or better served centrally.
What should I check before accepting the server?
Match delivered components to the agreed bill of materials, verify support registration and firmware, restrict management access, and run the agreed application and recovery checks. Acceptance criteria should be documented before installation.
